Established in 2007, we at PT. Pelita Samudera Shipping, Tbk (PSS) provide integrated logistic and shipping solutions mainly to the coal mining companies in Indonesia. Started out with newly-built fleet (25 units of Tug boats and 27 units of Barges), PSS is a member of IMC Group—a leading Pan Asia provider of integrated maritime and industrial solutions with diversified interests in dry and wet bulk logistic and shipping. Before long, PSS acquired four new Floating Loading Facilities (FLF) and one Floating Bulk Unloader (FBU) to compliment its fleet.
During our early years in operation, we at PSS consistently honed our skills and business processes to become probably the best integrated full-service logistic and shipping company for the coal mining industry in the country.
Between 2011 and 2015 the country’s coal mining industry went through a bubble economy—prices went up and spiraled down. Strategically, we made no addition to our fleet except for the starting of a Blending Transshipment in September 2015.
In 2016, prices for coal and other commodities started to move upward. Margins of coal mining companies began to rise; and PSS chartered Floating Crane Straits Phoenix in order to better serve the rising demands.
As the market began to grow, we at PSS deemed it necessary to expand our operations by opening branch offices in Banjarmasin and Samarinda, both in Kalimantan island. This strategic move proved to be successful in improving service reliability and consistency for our clients. Along with the opening of branches in Kalimantan, we acquired additional assets. Today, PSS fleet consists of Tugs (33 units), 300-ft Barges (29 units), 330-ft Barges (5 units), Floating Loading Facilities (4 units), Floating Bulk Unloader (1 unit), and a Floating Crane Straits Phoenix.
We have been privileged to work closely with a variety of clients of all sizes. And it would be fair to say that the work we proudly present in this profile is not just the result of our professional commitment to excellence but that of our clients’ too.
